Pat Coldrick’s session work and classical appearances have earned him a reputation of being one of the finest and most versatile guitarists in Ireland. As well as his touring performances, he has appeared on National Radio and T.V. and has studied with world renowned guitarists David Russell and Gabriel Esterellas. Pat has achieved worldwide acclaim for his unique sensitive and expressive style in his playing.

His music defies genre and appeals to a wide cross section of music lovers. While Pat plays his own arrangements of great classical pieces, it is his own compositions that sets him apart – pieces such as Lament, CityJam and Antarctica to name but a few. Pat’s skillful and atmospheric connection with his audience is an art form in itself and is in total contrast to other more formal classical performances. He has a very easy going, laid back and unassuming approach and his interaction with the audience and philosophy of ‘entertaining’ rather than ‘educating’ his listeners is a breath of fresh air.

Once Pat begins to play people are immediately captivated by his dedication, passion and skill. His interpretation and delivery of each piece combined with his superb artistry as a performer results in his unique ability to make his audience laugh and equally move them to tears. He has twice performed sell out concerts at Irelands National Concert Hall (the equivalent of the Royal Albert Hall) and will be playing there again in October this year.

Album Releases: Cayendo (2010) and CityJam (November 2014)

Festivals: International Guitar Festival in St Petersburg, Slovenia and USA. He has also been invited to play at many Irish Festivals including – Ards International Guitar Festival, Derry International Guitar Festival, Clonakilty Guitar Festival, Dun Laoghaire Music Festival in Marley Park

TV & Radio Appearances: Late Late Show in 2012, RTE Radio 1, LMFM, Nova, Cry104 FM

Sell Out Concerts: 2 Sellout Concerts in The National Concert Hall· Performed with Degani Ensemble under the leadership of Alan Smale (RTE Symphony Orchestra)· Invited to Play with the RTE Concert Orchestra in Temple Bar in November 2014 for Dublin Culture Night

Reviews: The CityJam Album was critically acclaimed in the international Classical Guitar Magazine – Nov 2014.

Other Artists: Recorded tracks with Marti Pellow for his album released in 2015. He also has a very significant presence on social media including Facebook with over 13,000 Likes on his Music Page. His unique interpretation of “Danza Paraguaya” by Austin Barrios has over 225,000 views on YouTube.

Duo NIHZ Concert Photos July 2016

Duo NIHZ World-renowned Dutch performers Duo NIHZ (Niet In Het Zwart – ‘Not Dressed In Black’) are coming to Veryan on 29th July. Kernow Concert’s very own Charlotte Arnold caught up with Bobby
Rootveld (guitar/voice) and Sanna van Elst (recorder/voice) in Nordhorn,
Germany, ahead of their July trip.
CA: This is the second summer in a row you will have toured in the UK… but I believe this is to be your first trip to Cornwall. What do you know about Cornwall?
BR: We can’t wait to visit Cornwall. We are already Anglophiles, having grown up with the Beatles, The Kinks, Animals, and later on we loved bands like Oasis, Travis, and… Kula Shaker! In addition, it’s the land of football and of our favourite comedians, Monty Python. I think we’re going to love Cornwall. It is known everywhere for great beaches, cream teas, pasties and some of the friendliest people around. Sanna is a vegetarian, so a place with ‘corn’ in the title is already a treat… and to see a wall made out of corn would be extraordinary! What is a pasty, anyway?
CA: You’ll have to wait and see! What kind of music can we expect from you, and can you tell us a bit about your performance style?
SvE: We like to be different, so our concerts are full of humour and a little craziness. There’s more than a touch of theatre about them, because we are also trained actors. The music is based around the Jewish tradition, and includes fast and fun Klezmer, Music Theatre pieces like Domeniconi’s ‘Circus Music’ and brand new compositions written for us by composers such as Annette Kruisbrink and Louis Ignatius Gall. In every concert there’s a ten minute segment of pure sadness when we play two Holocaust songs, to honour Bobby’s family – who lost over a hundred members.
CA: One of the highlights of your summer programme is the Shir Hashirim Suite composed for you by the famous Italian composer Gianmartino Maria Durighello…
BR: Yes, it is an amazing piece, and we will premiere it in Italy on June 19th, after which we are on a three month tour that takes us to Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy (for a second time) and of course to you in the UK.
CA: We cannot promise you the grand concert halls you are used to – such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam – but we guarantee you enthusiastic audiences in wonderful venues at unique Cornish locations! What do you hope to take away from your visit to Cornwall?
SvE: For us, the most important thing is to bring our musical message to new audiences.
We have been lucky enough to play at some of the world’s most important festivals and venues – but for us it is all about the art.
