July 2016 News

What an amazing service for Fr Doug’s last Sunday as our parish priest: many, many thanks indeed from the churchwardens to everyone who helped in any way to make the event run so smoothly – including those
young choir members who removed the playground gate for us with such ease!
As ever, it’s not only the preparation and ‘tending on’ on the day, but the tedious clearing up afterwards when everybody else has gone home, so special thanks to those stalwarts who stayed on to tidy up.
We are grateful to Fr Doug for arranging priestly ‘cover’ for
us until late September, and to all the priests and readers,
local and visiting, who are now taking services. Please
come and support them and make them welcome.
Our visitors’ book as usual contains the names of many overseas visitors, some from Germany to see the ‘Hera’ grave, others with family connections. We’ve already mentioned some Australian connections
of Philip Clear, our ‘Waterloo’ soldier, and more recently we noticed some
Trists, also from Australia. Sadly, probably because of security issues, people rarely leave an address or email contact:
it would be good to keep in touch.
