News October 2016

As from this month [October] there will be NO 8.30 am service on the 4th Sunday. Although we understand the liking of the ’early ‘ congregation for the Book of Common Prayer service, the PCC has agreed that during the vacancy it is unfair to expect visiting priests to travel in the early
morning to minister to a very small congregation, especially as there are other options: Ruan Lanihorne has a BCP Communion service on the first Sunday of the month at 9.30 am, while Cornelly [now part of our cluster of churches] offers an 8.30 am Prayer Book Communion every Sunday. We
also have to be prudent with heating : a warm church comes at a significant cost. And of course the 11 am congregation would love to see you!

Pat Coldrick Recital
Once again we were treated to superb guitar music. Pat Coldrick learnt to play as a youngster but gave up music for carpentry, only returning to his guitar after 25 years.
His concert was an extraordinary mix of music and autobiography. The performance included traditional, classical and modern compositions, along with his own music , interspersed with comments,
thoughts and humour, personal, philosophical, spiritual.
He deserved a much larger audience; those of us who were there were entertained, moved and astonished at his versatility and his personality.
Please support the next concert – the last in this series. We are hoping to
continue the international recital series next year in partnership with Ben Salfield and Kernow Concerts, but we must guarantee reasonably
good audiences to make it worth while.
Where else could you hear musicians who are internationally
acclaimed as the best in their field for only £10? And the church is
warm and comfortable!
Book now for 9 December – let’s show Ben that Veryan is a really good
venue and that we can fill the church .
